Press 1rea Pro Area

Nestled on the steep slopes overlooking the Rhône, the Condrieu appellation is one of the most prestigious in the Northern Rhône Valley. Dedicated exclusively to white wines made from the Viognier grape variety, it covers a small area of just 105 hectares, straddling several communes around Condrieu. Recognised as an AOC since 1940, it epitomises rarity, delicacy and sensuality.

A prized and demanding vineyard

The vineyards of Condrieu stretch across steep terraces, supported by low dry-stone walls known as ‘chaillées’. This rugged terrain makes wine-growing particularly demanding, requiring meticulous manual labour. The region’s granitic soil, combined with a climate that is both sunny and tempered by the breezes from the Rhône, allows the Viognier grape to flourish fully, thus offering a unique aromatic expression.

Viognier: unrivalled aromatic richness

Condrieu is a full-bodied white wine with a high alcohol content. Its golden colour, sometimes enhanced by greenish hues, heralds a powerful and complex bouquet. Aromas of apricot, acacia honey, pear and almond intertwine with floral notes of violet and fruity hints of mango and apricot. On the palate, the wine is round, smooth and generous – a true invitation to savour.

A rarity that enhances fine dining

Condrieu wines are not only rare and complex, but they are also perfect for accompanying fine dining. They pair particularly well with fish, white meats or mature cheeses. Lovers of aromatic white wines will appreciate the elegance and depth of these wines, which can be enjoyed young or allowed to develop their character over time.
