The Cornas Appellation
In the heart of the Northern Rhône Valley, Cornas is a true gem for lovers of great red wines. This appellation, recognized as an AOC since 1938, is exclusively dedicated to Syrah, the region’s emblematic grape variety. On these steep hillsides, the vines thrive on terraces, producing powerful, deep wines with excellent aging potential.
The Cornas Vineyard
Located exclusively within the commune of Cornas, south of the Hermitage and Saint-Joseph appellations, this appellation covers just over 150 hectares. Its name, which means "burnt land" in Celtic, reflects the generous sunlight on its southeast-facing slopes—ideal for ripening Syrah.
Cornas is distinguished by a mosaic of soils: decomposed granite, limestone scree, and sandy clay, which give the wine its rare complexity and intensity. This rugged terroir, difficult to mechanize, demands nearly exclusively manual vineyard work, preserving an ancestral know-how.

Wines of Character, a Signature of the Northern Rhône Valley
Cornas wines are powerful and well-structured, with aromas of dark fruits, spices, and sometimes violet. They reveal their full potential after a few years in the cellar, although some more approachable vintages can also be enjoyed younger.
This assertive character does not prevent a fine elegance, especially in the modern expressions of the appellation, where winemakers strive to combine typicity and refinement.
A Unique Appellation in More Ways Than One
Cornas stands out with a strong and unique identity in the Northern Rhône Valley. Here, everything shares the same name: the village, the appellation, and the sole authorized grape variety, Syrah. This rarity strengthens the intimate link between place, terroir, and the wine’s expression. This unity gives rise to cuvées deeply rooted in their origin, reflecting the landscape, climate, and know-how passed down through generations. At Cornas, every bottle tells a local, embodied story.
